Shahid Kapoor on Kabir Singh success: I feel like a newcomer & need to figure out this new club I’ve entered
Shahid Kapoor is the man of the moment as his recent success, Kabir Singh has surely transported the star right into the 200-Crore club. As the film starring Shahid and Kiara Advani still is running, fans have showered immense love on the character that also earned massive criticism for its flaws. While Shahid has taken all of it in stride, Kabir Singh has catapulted him into the big leagues of Bollywood. Shahid has been riding high on the success of the film and has spoken about the after-effects of Kabir Singh.
In an interview with GQ, Shahid said that he still needs to wrap his head around his recent success. “I kind of feel like I don’t belong here, I feel like a newcomer. I need to figure out this new room, and this new club that I’ve entered. Even though I’ve been here for 15-16 years, it’s not my comfort zone, I need to get my head around it,” he said.
The actor added, “I can’t [afford to] feel like I know exactly what’s going on, and exactly what I need to do next. So I’m trying to keep it simple, and eventually I’ll go with my instinct and my gut.”
Shahid is currently basking in the success of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Kabir Singh, in which he plays the eponymous surgeon who goes into a downward spiral of drugs and alcohol after his girlfriend leaves him. While the audience has given the film a lot of love, it has been panned by the critics for its toxic masculinity.
Kabir Singh is the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2019, so far. In an Instagram post, Shahid thanked the audience for their overwhelming response.
Meanwhile, Shahid is off to the Alps in Switzerland along with Kunal Kemmu and Ishaan Khatter for a biker’s trip. Shahid’s love for bikes is well-known. However, he had stopped riding the bikes a while back. Recently, he started doing the same again and now is on a bikers trip to Switzerland. Kabir Singh earned around Rs 272 Crore at the domestic box office as per box office India. It was a Hindi remake of a Telugu film, Arjun Reddy starring Vijay Deverakonda. The film also starred Kiara Advani opposite Shahid and was helmed by Sandeep Vanga.
Shahid also lauded the audience for loving a protagonist who was “human and imperfect”. He wrote, “More power to you all for your maturity and humanness. You have given me wings to fly. To not only be burdened by the need to be loved to be a star but to have the courage to be hated in equal measure to be an actor. Here’s to cinema mirroring life. To protagonists who don’t have to be restricted by their goodness and can be human and imperfect. There is perfection in imperfection and that is the beauty and the challenge of this human life.”
